A host of Irish films are screening as part of Marché du Film 2023. Charlotte Wells’ Aftersun will receive a Special Screening at Critics’ Week 2023. Selling at the Market
The internationally renowned film festival, which is in its 76th year, runs alongside the busiest global film market, The Marche du Film. Producers and directors attempting to find funding and distribution networks will mingle with financiers and distributors from across the globe. Irish films screening at the Marche du Film 2023 include West The Road, directed by Ita Fitzgerald, and The Damned, directed by Thordur Palsson and supported by Screen Ireland, and Lola directed by Andrew Legge.

GREAT 8 Showcase
Rich Peppiatt’s comedy Kneecap is slated for the GREAT 8 Showcase at this year’s festival. The film follows Irish-language rap trio Kneecap playing heightened versions of themselves against the backdrop of post-Troubles Belfast.

Charades will be representing the film in international sales. They will be unveiling the first footage of the film at the GREAT 8 event, the annual Cannes buyers’ showcase of U.K. films from first and second-time directors.

Charades previously took part in GREAT 8 with Charlotte Regan’s Scrapper and Charlotte Wells’s Aftersun, for which Paul Mescal won Best Lead Actor (Film) at the 20th Anniversary IFTAs. The showcase is being backed by the BFI, BBC Films, Film4, the British Council, and the UK government’s GREAT campaign.

Curzon and Wildcard are handling distribution in Ireland and the UK.

Producers on the Move
At this year’s Cannes festival, Irish producer Kathryn Kennedy was selected for the European Film Promotion’s Producer on the Move for 2023. Kennedy is most recently known for Atomic Hope: Inside the Pro-Nuclear Movement. The film is directed by Frankie Fenton, under Kennedy’s production banner Kennedy Films. Atomic Hope made its premiere at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival 2022.

The Marche du Film runs from the 16th to 24th May.
