Wait For Me
Dublin and Wexford based production company Tile Media's first feature film Wait for Me has picked up the best director award at the Manchester Film Festival 2023.

Directed by Keith Farrell (A Terrible Beauty..., Death or Liberty, Ireland's Nazis), written by Bernard O'Toole and produced by Fiona Kinsella (Someday Sadie, Ascending Grace, Holy Island) for Tile Media. Wait for Me premiered at the BIFA qualifying festival last Saturday before picking up the best director award on Sunday.

Speaking about the win, Head of Production at Tile Media Fiona Kinsella said: “We are absolutely delighted that Keith’s debut feature has picked up this award.  We’re thrilled for Keith, this is an incredible achievement and an amazing opportunity for the company.  We have so many things to look forward to in 2023 with a company rebrand and the release of our TG4 Documentary in May, this is truly the icing on the cake.”

Wait for Me is the story of Alison, an Irish emigrant in Halifax, Yorkshire, who is trapped in a life of crime after arriving in England from Ireland. Forced by her father Ged into working for local pimp Max, Alison looks to escape her circumstances. When she meets Sam, a damaged man trying to move beyond his troubled past, they both hit the road before Max has a chance to stop them. Alison goes looking for the child she abandoned, Ruby, now being raised by her sister Karen. However, her demons come back to haunt her, as Max comes in search of her but ends up kidnapping Sam. Alison realises that to be truly free she must confront Max to protect Karen & Ruby from the sins of her past.

Commenting on winning best director for his debut feature Keith Farrell said, “To win best director for my debut feature is incredible. Having been an emigrant to England, I wanted to make a film that crossed the Irish sea and explored the lives of Irish emigrants who haven't been successful or ‘made it’ in the UK. It was great to work with Tile Media who share my passion for telling stories about our emigrant community. Premiering to a full house here in Manchester, a city with a large emigrant Irish population was just amazing and shows that the film resonated with audiences.”

The film stars Karen Hassan (Vikings, The Fall, High Rise), Sean McGinley (Braveheart, Bleak House, Love/Hate), Elva Trill (Northern Lights, Jurassic World Dominion, Starstruck), Neil Bell (Dune, Peterloo, Dead Man's Shoes), Rebecca Atkinson (Shameless, Flatmates, Silent Witness) and Theo Ogundipe (Top Boy, Love Without Walls & RSC).

Wait for Me is an Irish/UK co-production between Tile Media and Old Hall Films made with the support of Screen Yorkshire and scheduled for a UK release on 2nd June 2023.
