Screen Training Ireland appoints Fran Keaveney as New Skills Development Executive
15 Oct 2018 :
Screen Training Ireland has announced the appointment of Fran Keaveney to the position of Skills Development Executive – Film and TV Drama Production.

Fran will work closely with industry guilds, heads of department, crew and producers to address gaps in skills and competencies and address future skills requirements. She will also work closely with the Skills Development Executive – Apprenticeships & Traineeships at Screen Training Ireland, developing pathways into the industry, structured modular training and career progression opportunities beyond entry-level.

Speaking about the new appointment, Gareth Lee, Skills Development Manager of Screen Training Ireland, said:

“We’re delighted to have Fran joining the team here at Screen Training Ireland. Fran will bring a wealth of production experience and skills development knowledge to the role. The development of people and skills in the screen sector is a crucial component of growth and success, and this appointment will help to exponentially increase the skills development provision for the Film and TV Drama sector nationally”.

Fran Keaveney returned to Ireland in 1991, having spent four years in Australia, studying Film and TV and working at The Australian Film Studios in Melbourne. She began freelancing on features and commercials and worked mainly in the Production and Locations departments. The following are some of the films she worked on, ‘Into The West, ‘The Snapper’, ‘In The Name of The Father’, ‘Moondance’, ‘A Man of No Importance’, ‘Braveheart’, ‘The Van’, ‘The Devil’s Own’ and ‘Let Us Prey’.

She moved to Galway in 1996 and was the first production manager on the TG4 soap ‘Ros na Rún’ until joining the Irish Film Board in 2000 where she worked as Production Manger initially and then Short Films Executive for eight years.  She has continued to work on a consultancy basis with Screen Ireland since her departure in 2012. She has tutored at the Huston School of Film and Digital Media, NUIG since 2007 and is an assessor with the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland since 2013.

Screen Training Ireland is the leading agency with responsibility for investing in people through skills development initiatives for the screen sectors in Ireland, including Film, TV, Animation, VFX, and Games.
