TG4 Celebrate 11 Nominations for Irish Language Productions Ahead of 2018 IFTA TV Awards
11 May 2018 : Nathan Griffin
TG4’s reputation for quality and diversity has been further enhanced by news this week regarding the shortlisted entries for this year’s IFTA Awards. The Irish language channel has 11 nominations on that shortlist.

Among this year’s Irish language nominations are:

‘Hector Central’, nominated for a Factual Award is an 8 part series of travel programmes where Hector takes on the famous Pan American Highway, the world's longest "motorable road" beginning in Panama City, taking in countries with amazing history and character and perceived danger - Costa Rica to Nicaragua to El Salvador to Honduras to Guatemala as he aims to drive and trek 3363 miles finishing up in Belize City on the footsteps of the Caribbean.

‘Éire Fhiáin- An Chósta Thiar’ - nominated for Documentary Series. A two hour special on Ireland's most striking wild environment - the 1,600km of rock and ocean that make up our island's Atlantic edge. Featuring enchanting wildlife set against stunning land and seascapes under the moodiest skies in Europe, this series is a compelling portrait of the wild creatures that inhabit a coastline that was for millennia the very edge of the known world.

Nominated in the Soap category is ‘Ros na Rún’ - TG4’s longest-running and best-loved series.  It has engaging storylines that bring the leading characters through awkward situations and extreme jeopardy.  ‘TG4XX Beo’, which is nominated for a Live Event award, was a live concert event that took place in venues all over the country to celebrate TG4's 20th Birthday.

Two of TG4’s projects received nominations in the Children & Young People’s category. ‘Is Eolaí Mé’ an energetic science series presented by Peadar Ó Goill. Each episode deals with a certain topic with exciting inserts, and ‘Lurgan 2K17’ a light entertainment series for young people where the new videos from 'TG Lurgan' are shown as well as the talented students who took part in the videos.

Seán McGinley received a nomination in the Male performance category for his role in ‘Fir Bolg’.

‘Fir Bolg’ also received a nomination in the Irish language category alongside, Frank O’Connor - ‘Idir Dhá Shruth’, ‘Rocky Ros Muc’ and ‘Ros Na Run’.

TG4 Ardstiúrthóir Alan Esslemont, congratulated the shortlisted TG4 productions and skills nominees for this year’s IFTA saying:

“TG4 has received nominations and prizes at each IFTA since we came on air. Being nominated in the same categories that include some of the best quality English language TV content available anywhere, bears out the regular feedback we receive from viewers and critics who associate TG4 with distinctive quality and innovation”

The IFTA Television Awards take place on May 31st, 2018.
