Speaking about the new series Karen Kirby, Commissioning Editor of BBC Gaeilge, said “This is the fifth series of ‘I Lár an Aonaigh’ and the programme continues to build on its reputation for bringing fresh, alternative angles to topical stories which reflect life here.  In this series we hear more from people who share their individual experiences with the audience including the Donegal cancer survivors who are celebrating life as members of a dragon boat racing team and those helping young people understand gender diversity.  And of course it has also given us here at BBC NI, the chance to showcase and develop new talent, through presenters, reporters, musicians and contributors.”

Presenters Máire Bhreathnach and Tomaí Ó Conghaile are joined by Lynette Fay, Dáithí Ó Muirí and Conall Ó Máirtín will be sharing a mixture of stories, conversation and performances throughout the series.

This series will include a variety of special guests including singer, Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh, dancer and choreographer Sibéal Davitt, the actor and film director Linda Bhreathnach, author Myra Zepf, singer and songwriter John Spillane and author Alex Hijmans.

There will also be music to suit everyone’s taste, from traditional music to blues and soul. The series will also feature south Armagh traditional musicians, Bothán, Blues duo, Blackbird and Crow, indie folk group Jealous of the Birds, jazz and soul music performed by Ríoghnach Connolly and Honeyfeet and new music from Dublin band, The Riptide Movement.

Series Producer Michael Fanning said: “We are delighted to be bringing back an autumn series of I Lár an Aonaigh and once again the series features a wide range of interesting stories, from looking back at the Chernobyl disaster which occurred 30 years ago, to the Islandmagee Witches and the history of the Defibrillator. We are also very excited to have the music in the studio for the autumn series and it sounds great.”
