Cinemagic Looking For Young Film Critics
03 Jul 2012 :
Young film consultants at last year's Cinemagic event
The Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival is calling on young film enthusiasts to take part in its annual film critics panel which takes place this month.

The young people’s festival is looking for 25 participants, aged between 8-11 and 12-18, to take on the role of film consultants and help select a series of films which will screen at Cinemagic’s forthcoming festival this autumn.

The film critic workshops for 8-11 year olds will take place from July 16 to 17, and the 12-18 year olds workshop will be held from July 23 to 24. The application deadline is Wednesday, July 11. Cinemagic will provide further details on the venue once the panel is selected.

The young critics will then help pick the films for the Cinemagic Festival, which takes place on two different dates in October (5-18) and November (19-29) in Belfast.

The festival will include screenings of films from around the world, filmmaking workshops, competitions, masterclasses with industry professionals, and school and family events. The festival season will conclude with a gala awards ceremony where the winning films in the festival will be announced and young filmmaking talent recognised.

Previous festival activities included a lesson in silent film from acclaimed film historian Kevin Rockett, masterclasses with screenwriters such as Neasa Hardiman, and a presenting workshop with ‘X Factor’ host Dermot O’Leary.

To apply for a place on this year’s Cinemagic film critic panel, email or write to Claire at Cinemagic at claire@cinemagic.org.uk, or 49 Botanic Avenue, Belfast, BT7 1JL, explaining why you would make a good film critic, and include a short review of a film of your choice.
