Brendan Gleeson Launches TG4 New Season
01 Sep 2011 :
Brendan Gleeson with TG4's Linda Bhreathnach and Sile Ni Bhraonain
Irish actor Brendan Gleeson launched TG4’s autumn schedule, at the Dublin Convention Centre yesterday, revealing a host of new and returning programming for the autumn line-up. The upcoming schedule featured a diverse mixture of content, including Ireland’s hidden histories, Donegal Westerns, teenage pregnancy and extended rugby coverage.

This autumn, TG4’s programming includes ‘Anamnocht’, which brings real life Irish drama to our screens (whether it’s the eccentric author who banned the use of English in a Dublin suburban home or the Irish tennis hero convicted of murder in Monte Carlo),

The diverse history of Dublin city and its most famous personage and venues are revealed in the new eight part series ‘Scéalta Átha Cliath’, while the secret histories of Ireland’s most famous houses are uncovered in Tile Films’ ‘Cé a Chónaigh i mo Theachsa?’. Other documentaries in the schedule include a study of Irish missionaries working abroad in ‘Misinéiri Radacacha’, a series documenting the forgotten, ignored and neglected people in ‘Cogar’ and a four-part doc chronicling the history of Ireland on screen called ‘Muide Éire’ (Odyssey Media and Underground Films).

Returning drama includes the Irish language soap ‘Ros na Rún’. Produced by EO Teilifis and Tyrone Productions, the show is now in its 16th season.

Competition formats continue to be a popular choice for broadcasters with the return of Irish dancing nationwide competition ‘An Jig Gig’ and a new search begins for Irish towns and villages who are willing to brush up on the Irish in ‘The G Team’ (both Adare Productions).

Sports fans will be kept busy, as the broadcaster now holds exclusive free to air (highlights) rights for the Heineken Cup, Amlin and RaboDirect Pro 12 along with an attractive day-time slot for full deferred coverage of matches from the 2011 Rugby World Cup. A variety of live TV coverage of Gaelic games will continue along with Monday night compilation show ‘GAA 2011’.

TG4 continue to broadcast exclusive US imports including ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’, ‘Gossip Girl’, ‘Vampire Diaries’ and ‘One Tree Hill’. For more information visit the TG4 website at www.tg4.ie.
