The Deceived leads Virgin Media Television’s autumn line-up

Virgin Media Television has announced its new season of programming with brand new major Irish drama The Deceived, new shows across factual and entertainment, and a major new drama set in Dublin, co-commissioned with ITV, has just got the green light and will air in 2021.

A major new Irish drama The Deceived launches on 7th September on Virgin Media One. With all episodes available to binge watch for Virgin Media customers, and a brand new co-commissioned crime drama set in Dublin with ITV gets the green light.

Brand new entertainment series Lodging with Lucy comes to Virgin Media One as Lucy invites a host of Irish celebrities starting with Irish football legend Paul McGrath for an overnight staycation. Viewers favourite Gogglebox Ireland is also back with some brand new households.

Big Year In Big School, a brand new landmark Irish documentary series offers an intimate window into the ups, downs, tears, tantrums and triumphs that unfold as we follow kids entering their first year of school.  A year like no other as COVID 19 arrived to our shores, we see first-hand how this affected these kids and their education.

Programming Highlights

The TV Premiere of acclaimed Irish movie Black 47, staring Stephen Rea and Barry Keoghan, will broadcast on Virgin Media One in October. This Irish revenge thriller follows one man’s ruthless pursuit of justice in the darkest chapter of Irish history.

Following on from the success of the critically acclaimed access series The Guards: Inside The K, a new fly-on-the-wall series Inside Ireland’s Women’s Prison will bring viewers up close and personal with the women locked up in the Dóchas Centre. This gritty and gripping series gives an unprecedented take on life for women behind bars and just what drove them to cross the line to a life of crime.

The Deceived, the highly anticipated original Irish drama series starring Emmet J Scanlan (Peaky Blinders; BBC) and Paul Mescal (Normal People; BBC) will launch on Monday 7th September with two episodes airing back to back on Virgin Media One at 9pm. Filmed in Ireland and written by Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee and Tobias Beer, this exciting thriller is about lust, murder and manipulation and tells the story of a student who falls in love with her married lecturer.

VMTV have also announced that a major new drama set in Dublin, co-commissioned with ITV, has just got the green light and will air in 2021.

And Unidentified Ireland will show viewers the detectives for the dead, finding remains without identification and using cutting edge DNA and technology as well as old fashioned detective work to track down their identity and give their families the peace of closure. 

Brand new Lodging with Lucy starts on Monday 28th September and sees Lucy Kennedy become the hostess with the mostess as she welcomes famous faces, starting with Irish football legend Paul McGrath, for an overnight staycation in this new six-part series.

Other new Irish formats to feature include Eating With The Enemy, a new provocative format where strangers with extreme opposite views will be paired together for a meal to see what happens when they come face to face and have a real-life conversation; First Love, which airs in September and follows people who yearn to go back and find that first love. We see how they track them down and what happens when they come face to face years after that first flush of romance; and the return of OAP B&B.

Filmed during the last eighteen months of the late sporting hero’s life, Finding Jack Charlton is an emotional and inspirational documentary of an Irish football icon like no other. This co-production between Virgin Media Television and the BBC details Jack’s previously undocumented life with dementia, offering an intimate and compelling insight into Jack the man and the challenge faced by thousands of families universally. The documentary features key characters from throughout Jack’s career, with contributions from Jack’s family for the first time, his wife Pat and son John.

Ireland’s favourite TV critics are back, as a brand new series of Gogglebox Ireland starts on Wednesday 9th September. Expect some new households this season as our much loved armchair commentators share their critiques of the week's biggest and best shows on television.

Big Year In Big School, a brand new landmark Irish documentary series will launch on Sunday 13th September and offers an intimate window into the ups, downs, tears, tantrums and triumphs that unfold as we follow a class of four and five year olds as they enter their first year of school. A year like no other, as COVID 19 arrived to our shores, the series charts the trials and tribulations of home-schooling and the impact it had on our kids.

Vicky Phelan: The Big Interview will air on Virgin Media One this Monday at 9pm as VMTV presenter Ciara Doherty sits down with the CervicalCheck campaigner in an emotional interview where Vicky makes a plea to change the law around the right to die based on her own terminal cancer diagnosis and what she believes she may face in the future.

Virgin Media One will continue to have up to eight hours of live Irish content each weekday, with daily favourites; Ireland AM, which returns to its normal broadcast hours of 7am – 11am from Monday 31st August with brand new presenter Tommy Bowe, the former Ulster and Ireland rugby star; Elaine; The Six O’Clock Show; and The Tonight Show with Matt Cooper and newly announced host Ciara Doherty returns at 10pm on Tuesday 1st September.

Virgin Media News, Ireland's national independent television news service will continue to bring viewers the most up- to-date news and current affairs every week day. Virgin Media News Reporter Zara King will explore the impact of coronavirus on life in Ireland in a brand new Virgin Media News documentary Life Under Lockdown: Covid-19 in Ireland.

With sport, September also sees the return of the UEFA Nations League. VMTV will bring a host of the best games each match-day, including highlights of all the Republic of Ireland's games, who find themselves in a tough group with Bulgaria, Finland and Wales, as well as, the Euro 2020 playoff semi-finals and finals.

For rugby fans VMTV have the conclusion of this season's Guinness Six Nations tournament, including Ireland's games against Italy and France on 24th October and 31st October. There's also the conclusion of this season's Heineken Champions Cup.

Legendary former Irish international football manager and Virgin Media Sports analyst Brian Kerr discusses his life and career in Brian Kerr’s Football Stories, from his sport obsessed childhood, to the highs and lows of managing the Republic of Ireland, football in war zones, successes and failures in between.
