Colin Farrell Launches New Production Company - Chapel Place Productions
28 Aug 2019 :
Colin Farrell has launched Chapel Place Productions alongside his sister Claudine
The Irish actor has launched his production firm with a feature film adaptation of Irish crime novel ‘The Ruin’, alongside producer, Lee Magiday (‘The Favourite’, ‘The Lobster’).

The first project of Farrell’s Chapel Place Productions comes from Irish writer Dervla McTiernan’s widely-acclaimed Galway-set thriller. The story follows detective Cormac Reilly as he is thrown back into a case from 20 years before involving two children whose mother died of an overdose. Through the eyes of the detective we see into dark corners of Ireland including police corruption and abuses in the church.

McTiernan’s debut novel, ‘The Ruin’ has been published internationally in the U.S., the UK, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia, where it was a top ten best-seller.  The crime thriller marked the first in McTiernan’s ‘Cormac Reilly’ series, which was followed by its sequel, ‘The Scholar’ in 2019. ‘The Good Turn’, the third book of the series, is due to published in 2020.

Chapel Place Productions will handle both film and television productions and is run by Farrell and his sister Claudine. The production company is developing and producing the project with Magiday’s relatively new outfit Sleeper Films and Australia’s Hopscotch Features, with a cast yet to be announced.

Speaking to Deadline Troy Lum (‘The Water Diviner’) of Hopscotch said:

“We’re thrilled to be bringing Dervla’s page-turning novel to the screen, and we couldn’t have better partners than Lee, Claudine and Colin. We all responded so strongly to the material, which is driven by a richly authentic protagonist – detective Cormac Reilly – and set in the unique beauty of the west coast of Ireland”.

Magiday added:

“I’m excited to be working with Troy and Andrew and teaming up again with Colin and Claudine on such thought-provoking material. The Ruin is a brilliant debut – Dervla has created an atmospheric, resonant and intricately woven story with deeply affecting characters. It offers an intimate and compelling view of Galway, a city driven by its history.”

Farrell’s upcoming movies ‘Voyagers’ and ‘Eve and The Gentlemen’ are currently in post-production, with TV series The North Water set to begin shooting soon.
