Irish Short film ‘Last Night’, directed by Conor Morrissey and produced by Jackie Larkin of Newgrange Pictures, has been officially selected as one of twelve final-ists competing in the Manhattan Short Film Festival.
This year, the festival received 487 entries from a record 39 countries ac-cepting twelve finalists with films from Poland, Cuba, Ireland, Australia, Ger-many, Israel, Spain, the UK and the US.
Between the 15th and the 24th of September, the festival will screen 140 times in 72 cities throughout 14 countries and will be featured in 35 US states. Audience members will be asked to vote for the one film they think should win the event and the winner will be announced at the main event in Union Square Park, NYC on September 24th.
‘Last Night’ is the only Irish short film to make the MS festival shortlist. The film is a psychological thriller that takes place over one long night. A marriage is falling apart but as the night progresses husband and wife discover a much more dreadful truth. ‘Last Night’ features performances from Irish actors Orla Brady (Proof, Nip Tuck) and Liam Cunningham (The Wind That Shakes The Barley) and was photographed by Declan Emerson.
Earlier this year the film premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh included in the Irish Film Boards ‘Short Cuts’ programme.
The 2005 MS Film Festival had an attendance of over 8000 giving each finalist un-precedented exposure across the globe. Director Conor Morrissey said: “I am delighted the film has been selected and look forward to flying the flag in Manhattan. The festival is a great showcase as the films are seen by audiences right across the US, Canada and Europe”. The Manhattan Short Film Festival will travel to Galway on the 24th of Sep-tember.
