He has more than ten years experience in advertising and film industry, working for companies in Spain and Ireland in ad agencies like (McCann Erickson, Tapsa, Ad-volution, Cawley Nea or Grupo Imagen) and production companies like (Atrium digital, Cyan Animatica, Jump Films or Fábula Films). He is an outgoing professional, with lots of drive and motivation, with lots of experience in TVC, corporate videos and shorts. He just finished shooting a short film for Lars Von Trier called “halowin” co-produced by Element Post and in June he finished another short film called “The rattle of Benghazi” which is distributed by Freak Agency and produced by Element Post and it is already in more than 13 Films Official selections including prestigious festivals as Fesancor in Chile, Short Short in México, Bagdad, Bilbao or Fescigu in Spain. He has directed few shorts and work in few films before moving to features in 2009. In 2007, with a 20 euros short film “Seventy” befor! e his first feature film “The magic of hope” aka “el vuelo del tren”, was selected in the official sections of more than 40 Film Festivals and won few awards as best short film of the year 2007 in Andalusia-RTVA award and First award at Eutopia Film Festival.
Torres is known for his creativity, strength and energy. Born in Seville, Torres grew up as an artist since his childhood, writing tales, poems, theatre and newspapers in the school and expressing himself through painting at home. His mother worked cutting films during Franco´s period, so in somehow he was always fascinating with films due his mother passion.
By the time he was 25, he won some prices for painting and writing and he decided to move to advertising and film once he arrived to Dublin in 1997. Leaving Engineering behind, he studied a Certificate in Marketing at the Institute of Marketing of Ireland, in 2001 he attended a Master in Filming in the Cinematographic Centre of Cataluña (CEEC), Barcelona, where he started to shoot his first shorts. Moving back to Ireland, Torres attended a script workshop with Laurence Henson, John Grierson’s disciple; a direction and producing workshop in IADT (Dun Laoghaire institute of Art, Design & Technology – Ireland), a cinema analysis workshop in Saor-Ollscoil Na hÉireann, an acting course in the Gaiety School of Acting of Dublin and a script workshop (August 2005) in Dublin, with the prestigious script writer Bobette Buster, collaborator in films like “Chocolat”, “Swimming Pool” or “8 Femmes”, between others.
After been very patient with distribution in Spain, his big directorial Breakthrough came in 2011 with the feature film “the magic of hope” aka “el vuelo del tren”, which has been nominated in the Asecan Awards in Spain with 4 nominations and has been selected in Galway Film Festival 2011, Seville International Film Festival 2011, PIFF in India, Fascurt Barcelona 2011, AFM 2011, EFM 2012, Marches du Film 2012, EFP in New York, so far... He has written, produced and directed his opera prima in Seville, Spain and has got very good critics so far from different film critics in Spain, considering Torres as a serious filmmaker full of emotions and truth, a solid promise of an exciting feeling in construction, and a new director with a honest, sincere and incredible mise en scene and marvellous shots (“Variety” by Jonathan Holland, “El Pais” by Jordi Costa, “Fotogramas” by Nuria vIdal, “Pantalla grande” by Jerónimo José Martín, sources).
At the moment, Torres is preparing his second feature film “Blue guitar, with Kais Nashif(Paradise now) as main protagonist and with Javier Aguirresarobe (Twilight, The others, etc) as DOP, to shoot in Ireland in 2012 with Epos Film and Grand Pictures as main producers.
