Irish co-production ‘Frank’ is set to bring €5m revenue to Ireland, following its three-week shoot on Irish shores.

The Element Pictures and Runaway Fridge co-production, which is currently filming in Dublin and Wicklow locations, will spend close to €5 million on Irish goods and services, as well as industry jobs.

The film, which is benefiting from Section 481, has received €1m in production funding from the Irish Film Board, as well as financing from Film4 and the BFI.

Speaking from the set of ‘Frank’ this week, Minister for Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan (TD), said: “’Frank’ is an example of the excellent work the Irish film industry is producing and I was delighted to meet the cast and crew on set today. ‘Frank’ will spend close to €5 million on the Irish economy on jobs and local services and will go on to promote Ireland and Irish talent around the world.

“18 per cent of tourists visiting Ireland have cited film and television as a reason for coming to Ireland which cannot be underestimated, particularly in this, the year of The Gathering,” the Minister continued.

‘Frank’ stars Michael Fassbender, Maggie Gyllenhaal and recent IFTA winner Domhnall Gleeson. The film has been shooting on location in Ireland since January 21, following a three-week shoot in New Mexico.

Ed Guiney is co-producing for Ireland’s Element Pictures with David Barron and Stevie Lee for Runaway Fridge. IFTA winner Lenny Abrahamson is directing from a script by Jon Ronson and Peter Straughan.

Screen Scene, based in Dublin, will look after full picture and audio post on ‘Frank’.

Protagonist Pictures are handling international sales.
