BAFTA Best Actor Nomination For Peter O’Toole

Veteran Irish actor Peter O’Toole follows his Golden Globe and SAG nominations with another Best Actor nod from BAFTA. The actor is named for his performance in ‘Venus’ a dramatic comedy directed by Roger Michell.

New James Bond Daniel Craig, ‘The History Boys’ star Richard Griffiths and fellow Globe & SAG nominees Leonardo DiCaprio (The Departed) and Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland) are also in the running for the Best Actor BAFTA.

The full BAFTA shortlist, announced today, favours British films The Queen and Casino Royale who lead the field of nominations. Stephen Frears’ royal drama garnered a total of ten nominations including Best Film, Best British Film, Best Director, Best Lead Actress (Helen Mirren) and a Best Costume Design nomination for prominent Irish costume designer Consolata Boyle.

Martin Campbell’s ‘Casino Royale’ follows the pack with nods in nine categories and acclaimed horror pic ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ is in the running with eight.

‘Babel’, ‘The Departed’, ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ and ‘The Last King of Scotland’ are also in the running for Best Film with Alejandro González Iñárritu, Martin Scorsese, Jonathan Dayton/Valerie Faris and Paul Greengrass (United 93) shortlisted for Best Director.

This year's Orange British Academy Film Awards will be held on Sunday 11 February 2007 at the Royal Opera House in London.
