‘Even Droids Have Friends’
Kate Dolan’s ‘Little Doll’ selected for Berlinale 2016, Irish TV launch ‘Beyond The Lens’, a new programme detailing the processes behind short film-making and Smart Blondes Productions ‘Even Droids Have Friends’ screening at Dingle in March.

Kate Dolan’s ‘Little Doll’ selected for Berlinale

Irish short film ‘Little Doll’ has been selected to screen at Berlinale 2016 in the Generation Kplus section.

Written and directed by Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology graduate Kate Dolan, the film is produced by Claire Nolan for Other People Productions and is shot by Philip Blake.

The film explores the first inkling you may have as a child that your sexuality is different from that of your peers. The film was born out of Dolan attending Berlinale Talents in 2014 to develop the short at the Short Film Script Station.

The 66th Berlinale takes place on 11th-21st February. Check out the trailer for ‘Little Doll’ below:

Irish TV launch ‘Beyond The Lens’

In a brand new series, Irish TV explores the craft of short film-making by meeting the people breathing life into it today. From director, David C. Lynch, and producer, Enda Grace, ‘Beyond the Lens’ will also bring viewers a unique insight into the passion and work needed to drive a short film from paper to screen.

The show will further examine the film industry in Ireland and highlight the different funding opportunities available for short film makers. In the series premiere, presenter Owen Barton meets Laura McGann to talk about her short documentary, The End of the Counter, which picked up the award for 'Best Short Documentary' at the 2013 Galway Film Fleadh.

Throughout the series, there will be interviews with directors about their short films, giving an insight into the actor/director relationship, as well as what it takes to make a short film. A look at the 27th Galway Film Fleadh in 2015 will also be a particular highlight of the series.

‘Beyond the Lens’ begins Tuesday, January 26th at 9pm, and airs every Tuesday at 9pm on Irish TV, and can be viewed on the Irish TV channel on Sky 191, all Free to Air boxes, Freesat 400, Eircom’s eVision 191 and online at www.irishtv.ie.

Smart Blondes Productions ‘Even Droids Have Friends’ selected for Dingle

Buddy comedy-drama ‘Even Droids Have Friends’ has been selected to screen at the Dingle International Film Festival, which runs from March 17th-20th.

The film is written by the team at Smart Blondes Productions (Caroline Grace Cassidy, Sorcha Furlong, Elaine Hearty and Sarah Flood) and directed by Cassidy and Furlong. Produced by Kevin Cassidy and Park Pictures, the short is shot by Emmet Harte and edited by John White with Dave Fannin on Sound. Production coordinator on the film was Erik Clancy.

Starring Luke Griffin (‘Band of Brothers’, ‘Pure Mule’) and Morgan Jones (‘Charlie’, ‘The Guarantee’), ‘Even Droids Have Friends’ is set amongst the back drop of two Star Wars super fans at a local convention. Dressed as their childhood heroes R2D2 and C-3P0, they face an awkward moment of truth about who they are.

This is the fourth short film by Smart Blondes Productions - they are currently in pre production with their fifth - again in association with Park Pictures.

The Dingle International Film Festival takes place March 17th – 20th.
