Hollywood director Karey Kirkpatrick (Smallfoot, Imagine That, The Spiderwick Chronicles) and producer David Barron (Harry Potter film series, Cinderella) have joined the team of Irish film Faraway Home, produced by Powerscourt Pictures.
Faraway Home is a beautiful story of two young Jewish children sent by their parents away from Nazi occupied Austria during World War II on the Kindertransport to London. The children finally end up at a Jewish Refugee farm in Millisle, Northern Ireland, escaping the war and certain death.
Faraway Home is written by Stephen Gibson & Clare Sera in a screenplay adapted from Marilyn Taylor’s novel of the same name. Gibson also produces the film through his Irish company Powerscourt Pictures. The feature is developed and backed by Screen Ireland, Northern Ireland Screen, the Vienna Film Commission, and the Vienna Film Institute.
Speaking to IFTN, producer/writer Stephen Gibson said:
"When we shared the Faraway Home script with Karey to direct, it felt like a long shot, but you have to aim high. When he read the script, he was blown away, and came on board, we were over the moon. Karey is a wonderful director, with a track record working with young actors, like young Yara Shahidi in 'Imagine That', and with Sarah Bolger and Freddie Highmore in 'The Spiderwick Chronicles'. It's wonderful to be working with a Hollywood director of his calibre, and we welcome him to our team."
Faraway Home films in Ireland and Vienna early 2022, with an announcement on Cast news expected soon.
