The second series of Imeall Geal (Bright Edge), Big Mountain Productions’ Irish language chat and music show for BBC NI broadcasts on Monday, May 10th
The series sees the return of presenters Tomaí Ó Conghaile and Gráinne McElwain to the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre in Newry, Co Down, where they are joined by Irish music and entertainment personalities.
‘Imeall Geal’s Executive producer, Philip McGovern describes the ten part series for IFTN as a “mix of music, stories on VT and chat shot ‘as live’ in the Sean Hollywood Arts centre in Newry Co. Down over the Easter Holidays. All 10 shows were recorded over five days in front of a full Irish speaking audience, live bands of all genres from rock to trad, acoustic sets, performances and chat.”
As well as lively chat about Wwoofing, Couchsurfing, Beauty Pageants and Irish Dancing, ‘Imeall Geal’ sees music acts playing to a local intimate audience. From established musicians Joe Echo, Fiachna Ó Braonáin, The Dirty 9’s, Líadan, Brendan Murphy and David Geraghty performing on the same stage as newcomers Kitty and the Can Openers, Cara Cowan, Size2Shoes, John, Shelly and the Creatures and more besides.
’Imeall Geal’ is a Big Mountain Production for BBC Northern Ireland in association with the Irish Language Broadcast Fund (ILBF), the series producer is Karen Kirby. The executive producer for BBC Northern Ireland is Antaine Ó Donnaile, the executive producer for the ILBF is Áine Walsh and the executive producers for Big Mountain are Jane Kelly & Philip McGovern.
‘Imeall geal’ was filmed and edited in Newry, Co. Down. It was lit by John Gallagher, Karl Walker mixed the bands live and Fiona Cunningham oversaw set design. Observe provided the outside broadcast facility and the shows were edited at Big Mountain, audio post at the BBC with online at Joe Marcus Editing.
The second series of ‘Imeall Geal’ begins on BBC TWO NI, on Monday, May 10th at 10pm.
