High Wire and Gorilla are posting Mary Raftery’s new documentary series for RTÉ ‘Behind the Walls’. Produced and Written by Mary Raftery (States of Fear), the 2x60 minutes documentary series explores the history behind Ireland’s psychiatric hospitals.
Using interviews and dramatic recreations of biographical stories, the documentary was filmed on locations throughout Ireland from late 2010 and throughout 2011.
Directed by John Comiskey (The Byrne Ultimatum), the documentary series filmed extensively in the old buildings that were once Ireland’s psychiatric units, though now mostly disused, including St. Loman’s in Mullingar. They will be narrated by Aine Lawlor (Morning Ireland, States of Fear).
The documentary series is being edited in HighWire by Mary Crumlish (Paisean Faisean), with post audio being done in Gorilla Post Production. The series is funded by RTÉ and was filmed on HD. Research for the documentaries was done by Sheila Ahern.
‘Behind the Walls’ will be shown as part of RTÉ’s upcoming autumn schedule, with the first part showing on RTÉ One on Monday September 5th at 9.30pm and the second part on Monday September 12th at 9.30pm.
