Production is to commence in Cork City of a new feature film aptly entitled ‘Rebel City Rumble’ next Spring. The rock’n’roll gangster romance from Peachy Vision will star Keith McErlean (Goldfish Memory) and rock musician/actor Roy Harper (Made).
Director John Burns (Assistant Director, Once) and Stephen Lourdes, wrote the script for the film, which sees a bank robbery go terribly wrong for Ryan, played by Keith McErlean. The event means him having to go into hiding and is the start of a series of bizarre events for Ryan, which includes meeting the feisty, troubled girl of the piece, Roxy. The part of Roxy has not yet been cast.
Director John tells IFTN how the look of the film will be created: “Essentially what we are going to do is shoot in and around Cork City on HD with a Sony F35, we’ll then digitise it and mix it with shots of Manhattan to make ‘New Cork City’. It’s a Noir movie for the 21st Century.”
The director of photography for the feature is Anthony Bowes (Standing Ovation) and the film will be produced by Howard Gibbins (The Runway) and the executive producer on board is Ned Dowd (Ondine). ‘Rebel City Rumble’ has a budget of two million euro and it is being privately financed. The feature will shoot in Cork City next Spring and the CGI work will be carried out in the Peachy Vision offices in Cork.
Production Update:Peachy Vision announced on February 3rd 2011 that Keith McErlean was no longer involved with 'Rebel City Rumble'. In a conversation with director John Burns he explained that Keith was not happy with the film's scripts, feeling that some of the lines were out of sync with the neo-noir style. Keith suggested changes to the script which John Burns refused to make. Replacement casting details will be announced in due course on IFTN.
