Mind the Gap Films’ series ‘Hands On’ has been re-commissioned for a winter transmission starting on November 14th. The 10 x 25 minute series will run again as part of RTÉ’s programming for the deaf and hard of hearing community. The new series, the fifteenth of its kind, will start filming in October.
As a result of a legal obligation to open up commissions to proposals after a set number of years, RTÉ issued a call for submissions in April of this year for ”an informative and engaging series of programmes developed around the needs and interests of the Deaf community that will involve that community while also bringing their stories to a wider audience.” The dedicated slot for the hard of hearing communities has been a yearly feature for two decades.
Chosen to be re-commissioned by RTÉ with a budget of €200,000, ‘Hands On’ will be produced by Anne Heffernan (An Bhfuil Cead Agam?), directed by Ramon Wolfe (Something Stupid), with Bernadine Carragher (Happy Birthday Oscar Wilde) as series producer. Ten x 25 minute programmes will examine various issues affecting the deaf and hard of hearing community.
Mind the Gap films’ other recent project ‘Ireland – Dig It!’ will broadcast soon on RTÉ from Monday 20th to Friday 24th September. The archaeology and history based kids programme for RTÉ Young People’s is produced by Anne Heffernan, directed by Simon Hepworth and David Donaghy, with Bernadine Carraher as series producer.
