The short films; ‘An Ranger’, ‘The Door’, ‘Martin’ and ‘Of Best Intentions’ have been nominated in the Best Short Film Category for the 6th Annual Irish Film & Television Awards, to be held on 14th February 2009.
‘An Ranger’ (Carbon Films) directed by PJ Dillon recounts the tale of a British Solider who after many years abroad in the service of the British Army, a soldier returns home and learns that his family are all dead. He visits a neighbour to establish what happened to them.
Juanita Wilson’s ‘The Door’ (Octagon Films) plays out a father’s desperate attempt to come to terms with the devastating affects of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster.
‘Martin’, by Seán Branigan (Elk Films), is a dark, violent character study of an aggressive man fighting his inner demons until his bright 15 year old daughter becomes a glimmer of hope in his otherwise worthless life. Funded by Elk Films Ltd in association with The IADT National Film School while in Brian Durnin’s ‘Of Best Intentions’ (Red Rage Films) tells the story of five characters whose well-intentioned actions all incur disastrous consequence.
