Graham Norton drama Holding and crime thriller Redemption lead Virgin Media Television’s Spring TV Schedule

The independent broadcaster has confirmed that two major original Irish drama series will debut this year on Virgin Media Television alongside a number of new Irish factual and entertainment shows.

These dramas include the adaption of Graham Norton’s Cork-based best-selling novel, Holding, starring Conleth Hill (Game of Thrones) and Oscar-winner Brenda Fricker. The other is upcoming crime thriller Redemption, which tells the story of Liverpool based Detective Colette Cunningham (Paula Malcomson), who travels to Dublin to uncover the truth following her daughter’s untimely death.

Both series areco-produced by Virgin Media Television and ITV Studios, in association with Screen Ireland.

Virgin Media Television have also revealed a number of upcoming factual series including The Criminal Assets Bureau, which offers viewers unprecedented access to the main investigators responsible for seizing the assets of some of Ireland’s most notorious criminals. The series looks at the agency’s first 25 years and shows the Irish public CAB’s importance at both a national and international level, especially its role as a model for seizing the assets of organised crime worldwide.

The spring season will also mark the return of the highly acclaimed series The Guards: Inside The K, as audiences join the Gardaí, tackling Ireland’s criminals.

Crash Scene Investigates starts on Virgin Media One on Tuesday, January 18th. This four-part series, tells the real-life stories of Irish car crashes, how they happened and the long-term impact they caused, with contributions frombereaved families, first-responders, Garda, and forensic investigators.

Lucy Kennedy is back in a brand-new four-part series Lucy’s Tribes, which sees her try to disarm and charm four fascinating factions of Irish society, allowing the viewer unprecedented access into their lives. This is a new departure for Lucy and one that is bound to be full of shocks and surprises as she immerses herself into lifestyles that are way off her beaten track.  The nations favourite TV critics also return to Irish screens this January for Gogglebox: The Best Of

Heart-warming Irish dating format Generation Dating has now been commissioned for its first series and sees Irish singletons in their twenties matched up with the over 65’s to help one and other find love. Alongside the warmth and charm, the show will explore a changing Ireland, reflected in the shared experiences of two people of very different ages and backgrounds, as we see what happens when they come together to help each other in their search for the perfect partner.

Virgin Media Television will also be showing thriller series Hollington Drive, from acclaimed screenwriter Sophie Petzal (Blood) and The Holiday, which launches in March with a leading Irish cast including Owen McDonnell (Killing Eve), Siobhan Hewlett, Andrew Macklin, Lara McDonald, and Aidan McCann (Red Rock). Shot in Dublin, this four-part series stars Jill Halfpenny, a wife who discovers her husband is having an affair with one of her friends but which friend. Whilst in tandem a murder takes place as all concerned are enjoying a luxury group family’s holiday in the sun.

To mark the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival, VMTV, in association with Screen Ireland, will air a special week of Irish films and will broadcast the two short films that won last year’s Virgin Media Discovers Short Film Competition. Water Under The Bridge, a story about a refugees (Bilal) journey in a small Irish town. Protesting his father's warnings, he leaves the confines of Direct Provision to venture into this new world for the first time, and Punchline; on the night of a transphobic attack, a transgender comedian processes her feelings the only way she knows how, via stand-up comedy.

"2021 has been a stand-out year for Virgin Media Television with a record share of viewing for adults and younger viewers (15–44-year-olds),” said Virgin Media Television’s Director of Content, Bill Malone. “2021 was also a year when our free Virgin Media Player broke all previous records with over 45.5 million streams with box sets of top drama, reality and true crime proving particularly popular.”


VMTV returns with a strong line-up of sporting events in the calendar with the Men’s Guinness Six Nations returning, and the Women’s and Under 20s tournaments broadcasting on the channel for the first time. The UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Europa Conference League will make its return in February. Plus, all nine games from the UEFA European Qualifiers Play-off Finals will air from 24th March.

The best of horseracing will also be available with Cheltenham kicking off in March and Aintree Grand National Festival in April.

Bellator MMA is back and live from Dublin in March as Northern Ireland’s Leah McCourt will take on Ireland's most-recent title challenger Sinead Kavanagh for what looks set to become the biggest Irish female fight ever.

As the 2022 AFL Women’s season kicks off Down Under, VMTV is bringing the best of the action in our bespoke new show, AFLW Highlights. Will Dalton is joined by former Melbourne player and five-time Dublin All-Ireland winner, Niamh McEvoy, to analyse the games, discuss the big talking points and the latest from the 14 Irish players in Australia.

With over 45.5 million streams last year and listed in the top ten Google searches of 2021, Virgin Media Player will offer a number of new boxsets this year including Baywatch (season one, two, and three).

Plus, all three seasons of costal crime drama series The Bay from January 24th, accompanied by The Tower, and true-life drama series Anne, which is currently airing on Virgin Media One on Thursday nights at 9pm. The show tells the extraordinary story of Anne Williams, a Liverpool housewife whose 15-year-old son Kevin was tragically crushed to death in the 1989 Hillsborough disaster and her quest for justice.

Fans of reality TV can check out the ‘VMTV Reality’ playlist, which includes new WAG’s LA, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Real Housewives of Orange County, Real Housewives of Miami, Love Island Australia.

Viewers will have the chance to watch a collection of leading UK entertainment with The Masked Singer as Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan guess who the mystery singers are alongside; Dancing on Ice starts this Sunday with a new line-up of celebs taking to the rink; The John Bishop Show takes centre stage on Virgin Media One; Ant and Dec return for another series of Saturday Night Takeaway; The Cabins is back on Virgin Media Two, giving contestants just 24 hours to find love; Gordon, Gino & Fred are going ‘Greek’ in their latest culinary adventures; and the anticipated return of Britain’s Got Talent
