IFTA Focus on Maurice Sweeney

Director Maurice Sweeney has a diverse and acclaimed filmography.

The event will explore Maurice’s acclaimed IFTA award-winning work across his arts documentaries, sports documentaries and docu-dramas.

For the last ten years, Maurice Sweeney has been regarded as one of Ireland’s leading drama/documentary filmmakers, winning five Irish Film & Television Academy Awards. Having worked on diverse films from drama documentaries Cromwell In Ireland, to creative portraits of writer Flann O’Brien, WB Yeats (No Country For Old Men) and crime writer John Connolly, Maurice directed his first major drama feature, Saving The Titanic (starring David Wilmot and Liam Cunningham), to wide critical acclaim. The film has been sold throughout the world, including America, Canada and Britain winning numerous international awards.

Other critically lauded work includes The Irish of 9/11, The Roaring Boy and After Braveheart. In 2010, Maurice filmed and directed the widely acclaimed The Forgotten Irish, dealing with the mass emigration to Britain in the 1950's.
