Top Gun Sequel Update
Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of the 1986 original ‘Top Gun’ classic, has stated that Tom Cruise will compete against robotic drone pilots in the long awaited sequel to 80s action-drama film. Bruckheimer has said that Top Gun 2 will adjust to modern times through updating the aviation world, whereby Cruise will play an ‘old-school’ pilot who is determined to prove that man will always beat machine.

The news of a ‘Top Gun’ sequel first circulated when Cruise signalled at the Empire Film Awards last Sunday that the film was in active development. While a sequel seemed unlikely following director Tony Scott’s death in August 2012, producer Bruckheimer remains positive.

He says, “We've been trying to get that movie made for 30 years, and I think we're getting closer and closer. Don [Simpson, fellow producer] and I tried to develop something; we didn't succeed. Cruise took over, and he tried to develop something, and he didn't succeed. Now we're back at it.”

See a clip from the original ‘Top Gun’ movie below, for a hint of what’s to come:

Zac Efron to star in ‘The Associate’
Zac Efron, star of ‘High School Musical’, ‘17 Again’ and ‘The Paperboy’, has been cast in an adaptation of John Grisham’s ‘The Associate’. The 26 year old actor will play a Yale Law School graduate who is blackmailed by criminals to work at a major law firm where he must act as a spy. A scriptwriter is currently being sought before bringing the project to studios.

Efron has also been confirmed as a producer for the film. He will produce through his Ninjas Runnin’ Wild production company, which last produced ‘That Awkward Moment’, also starring Efron. Other producers attached are Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher through Red Wagon Entertainment, while Michael Simkin and Nicki Cortese will oversee development.

Trailer for ‘Lucy’
Scarlett Johansson, star of three films currently out in Irish theatres (‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, ‘Her’, ‘Under the Skin’) has proven herself to be a hard, consistent working actress, determined to take on strong female roles, in her next up-and-coming feature. ‘Lucy’ will see the actress play a superhuman with unlimited intelligence and extraordinary strength.

‘Lucy’ is a science fiction thriller directed and written by Luc Besson (‘The Big Blue’, ‘The Fifth Element’). It will co-star Morgan Freeman. Universal will be giving the film an Irish release on 22 August 2014.
