RTÉ Announce Spring & Summer Schedule
29 Apr 2004 :

RTÉ have issued a press release with the highlights of their Spring and Summer schedule including People in Need as well as new drama, current affairs and chat show productions.

In the statement RTÉ also reveals their performance in the first 3 months of this year, in which the combined channel share in prime time (6-11.30pm) was up by 3% year-on-year.

Plans to continue this growth are reliant upon their Spring Summer schedule. Among the featured highlights are:

RTÉ People in Need Telethon, 2004 returns after a four year absence with Gay Byrne, Gerry Ryan and Ryan Tubridy presenting various programmes in the national charity event. Includes 'Inside 252' is the week-long celebrity reality television series.

Buried Alive, is a new entertainment series presented by Dara O’Briain. A celebrity show in which an obituary is made of a well-known personality who is then invited in to discuss it.

Have Chat Show Will Travel (working title), is a brand new chat show in which Craig Doyle gets to meet, greet and talk with celebrity guests in some of the world's greatest cities.

Premiere of Omagh, a feature-length drama which chronicles both the lead-up to and the aftermath of the horrific bombing that claimed 29 lives in August 1998, co-produced with Channel 4, will be broadcast in late Spring.

The Bloomsday centenary will be marked with four programmes being broadcast on and around June 16th. Ulysses: A Reader's Guide is a 90-minute documentary guide to Joyce’s novel ‘Ulysses’. It sets out to provide a popular, accessible, insightful first engagement with the novel, in a highly visual, witty and innovative manner, in keeping with the extraordinary nature of the novel itself. The International Emmy Award-winning Is There Anyone Who Understands Me? by Sean Ó Mordha will be re-graded and broadcast alongside another of the master director's great works One Day In The Life - a snapshot of that extraordinary day, the original Bloomsday. Bloom’s People will also be screened. It is an international documentary on Ireland’s Jewish community – their history, personalities, cultural life and current position.

A new series exploring disability issues, Three Sixty, presented by Bethan Collins will feature alongside another series of City Folk, which will provide a unique insight into city life in Europe as it meets a variety of city dwellers from Oslo ice-bathers to Rastafarians in Lisbon.
