Virgin Media Television's original film was announced winner of Best Documentary at the Broadcast Awards 2022 in London over the weekend.

Following the documentary’s win at the prestigious awards, Virgin Media has made Finding Jack Charlton available to stream for free on the Virgin Media Player.

Having already picked up a number of awards and nominations, Finding Jack Charlton’s most notable achievement to date has been its role in Virgin Media's ‘Donate For Dementia’ campaign, which raising over 1 million euro for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland and helping to raise awareness of the condition.

Commissioned by Virgin Media Television and produced by Noah Media, the documentary tells the remarkable story of Jack Charlton and followed the last 18 months of his life and his previously undocumented battle with dementia.

Directed by Gabriel Clarke (Bobby Robson: More Than A Manager; Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans) and Pete Thomas (Adam Hills: Take His Legs), the film shot on location in Ireland and England.

The documentary features key characters from throughout Jack’s career, including major figures in football, music, film, politics, and, for the first time, Jack’s family. These personal perspectives, along with previously unseen archive, are an intimate window into Jack’s charismatic personality, his managerial philosophy, and offer a new level of understanding into Finding Jack Charlton.

“Finding Jack Charlton is a remarkable film about a remarkable man and Virgin Media Television are immensely proud of the international success and recognition it has achieved,” said Virgin Media Television’s Director of Content, Bill Malone. “But more importantly this film has helped to shine a light on dementia and to raise much needed funding for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.”

A co-production with BBC, Finding Jack Charlton has become one of Virgin Media’s most successful international co-productions with Malone describing it as a “calling card for VMTV”.

The documentary was made under Virgin Media Television’s strategy to increase Irish production budgets on screen through international partnerships, which has seen the broadcaster partner with ITV, Netflix, Channel 5, All3 Media, A+E Networks, and the BBC. Producing dramas such as Blood, The Deceived, and the forthcoming dramas Redemption and Holding.

Finding Jack Charlton is now available to stream for free on Virgin Media Player.
