Michael has been commissioning for TG4 since the channel was launched on Halloween 1996. Responsible for a variety of genres over the years and currently concentrating on drama, comedy and documentary both indigenous and as co-productions. After a varied career in New York and Donegal as a teacher, publican and hotelier, he trained as a television producer / director. Worked in the independent sector for a few years before moving to Údarás na Gaeltachta where his brief was to up the skills of new producers / directors for the promised Irish language broadcaster by commissioning pilot programmes.
