Filming begins on Foscadh, Seán Breathnach’s debut Irish Language feature film

Dónall Ó Héalaí in Foscadh.
Principal photography is underway on the new Irish language feature film Foscadh (Shelter) in Corr na Móna in North county Galway for a five week shoot.

Written and directed by debut director Seán Breathnach and produced by Paddy Hayes (Corp + Anam, EIPIC), Foscadh tells the story of John Cunliffe, a rural recluse who is forced to come of age at the ripe old age of 26. When his over-cosseting parents pass away, John discovers his inherited land is in the way of a proposed windfarm development, and he is forced to navigate the choppy waters of friendship and trust for the first time.

This 90 minute feature film stars Dónall Ó Héalaí (Traders), Fionnuala Flaherty (Out of Innocence) and Cillian Ó Gairbhí (Blood). Cinematography is by Colm Hogan (EIPIC), designed by Margot Cullen (Follow the Dead) and it will be edited by Conall de Cléir (Corp + Anam).

Speaking about the film, producer Paddy Hayes told IFTN:

"Having made documentaries and TV dramas for 20 years, I am delighted to be embarking on my first feature film here in Corr na Móna. We are shooting in glorious widescreen so hopefully, we can do justice to this most picturesque corner of Galway with a story about rural isolation that will resonate with cinema audiences from Rome to Reykjavik."

Foscadh is part of the cine4 scheme funded by Screen Ireland, the BAI and TG4, and is produced by Galway-based Tua Films. It is scheduled for international release in late 2020.
