The final nomination goes to Tim Chauncey of Windmill Lane VFX for his work on Richie Smyth’s ‘The Siege of Jadotville'.

The 2017 IFTA Film & Drama Awards ceremony takes place on Saturday, April 8th at the Mansion House, Dublin.

Ed Bruce, VFX Supervisor:
“As Visual Effects Supervisors, myself and Nico are delighted to be named in three of the four VFX nominations at this year’s IFTAs representing our team in Screen Scene. This is a great testament to the craft, diligence and hard work of our amazing team of talented artists and crew within SSVFX. It’s been a pleasure for us to work on such shows as Black Sails, Game of Thrones, & Ripper Street for Starz, HBO and Amazon Prime/BBC. SSVFX has prided itself on leading the way within the Irish Visual Effects Community. These nominations are a reflection on that.”

Black Sails
Film Afrika Worldwide production ‘Black Sails’ is an Emmy-winning series created by Robert Levine and Jonathan E. Steinberg.

Shot in South Africa, Screen Scene were tasked with creating period Philadelphia during winter. Most shots have ground floor practical buildings with CG top ups while other shots are full CG created towns and docklands. CG Ships, water and digital doubles bring the scenes to life. Towns were modelled to match the practical environment and continued to texture, light and comp to a photo-real finish.

Game of Thrones
The acclaimed HBO fantasy series based on the novels of George R. R. Martin received five Visual Effects Society Awards for ‘The Battle of the Bastards’, the ninth episode of season six last month, for which Screen Scene are also nominated.

Screen Scene VFX completed over six hundred VFX shots for the sixth season of the HBO series Game of Thrones, with over one hundred and fifty of these going to the award winning episode ‘Battle of the Bastards’. Screen Scene was one of 13 vendors working on the series.

Ripper Street
The Tiger Aspect Productions series is created by Richard Warlow and centres on the law enforcement of the place once terrorised by the infamous Jack the Ripper. Screen Scene helped to craft the thicketed streets of Whitechapel, as shown in the breakdown below.

The Siege of Jadotville
This Parallel Films Production explores the bravery of the Irish UN troops fighting Belgian and French mercenaries in the Congo in the 1960s. Tim Chauncy held the position of VFX Supervisor on the project.
