‘Vikings’ & ‘Game of Thrones’ Make IMDb’s Top 10 TV Shows of 2016
15 Dec 2016 : Laura Brennan
IMDb released a list of its ‘Top 10 TV shows of 2016’ this week, with HBO’s drama ‘Game of Thrones’ topping the list for the fifth consecutive year and History’s ‘Vikings’ coming in at number nine.

Both ‘Vikings’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ are shot and filmed in various locations across Ireland and Northern Ireland.

To have two of the top ten shows featured on the IMDb list shot and filmed in Ireland is a notable achievement and one which is a credit to the worthy reputation of hard work and commitment being done within the TV and filming industry in Ireland.

History's internationally acclaimed ‘Viking’s which is filmed here and broadcast in over 100 territories worldwide includes a lead cast that includes Irish actors such as Moe Dunford (‘Handsome Devil ‘,‘The Flag’) and John Kavanagh (‘Braveheart’,‘The Butcher Boy’) alongside  Northern Ireland’s Clive Standen (‘Robin Hood’,‘ Camelot’) and Katheryn Winnick (‘Love & Other Drugs’,’Bones’).

‘Vikings’ was renewed for a massive 20-episode Season 5, which is to air sometime in 2017, and the series is currently on the back half of a 20-episode Season 4.

The drama which is created by Michael Hirst is quoted in IMDb’s Top 10 TV Shows of 2016 list as being “the fictionalized historical drama in which viewers are treated to iconic characters and epic storylines about generational conflict, personal ambition, and, of course, pillaging and plundering.  All of which seem timeless to contemporary audiences (even if the show is set around 800).”

For ‘Game of Thrones’, “HBO's powerhouse series ruled supreme with IMDb users,” according to the list. “Season 6 did not disappoint when it came to memorable on-screen moments. It began the season by finally addressing Jon Snow's, Kit Harrington fate, and through the course of 10 episodes viewers learned a little more about Melisandre, Carice van Houten, saw Daenerys, Emilia Clarke stand down the Dothraki and finally set sail for Westeros, and, oh, pondered a bit about the word ‘door’."
