Find out how Ireland's Easter Rising shaped the Australian nation in this new documentary ‘Michael, they've shot them’ premiering on RTÉ One, Tuesday 22 November 11.25pm.
Produced by an Irish Melbourne based production company, Flight of the Cubs, this documentary tells a previously untold story of the powerful impact of Ireland's Easter Rising in Australia.
‘Michael, they've shot them’ is the compelling story of the impact of Ireland’s 1916 Easter Rising in Australia. In the midst of WWI, the executions of the leaders of the 1916 Rising would influence the Irish Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne, Daniel Mannix, to take a public stance against the question of conscription facing the Australian people. A bitter sectarian divide opened in Australian society, as an Irish-Australian Catholic force, which would shape the political and social trajectory of Australia, was forged.
The documentary will also be broadcast on Australian national broadcaster SBS and Eithad Airways are seeking to have it on all their aircraft in February 2017.
