Galway City of Film continues 100 Years of Irish Cinema with Irish Shorts celebration
24 May 2016 : Seán Brosnan
Event will take place on Saturday, June 18th
Galway City of Film continues its 100 Years of Irish Cinema programme with a celebration of the Irish Short Film as Indie Cork programmer Mick Hannigan has put together a selection of his favourite Irish Short Films. This programme will be screened at An Taibhdhearc, Galway city at 3pm on Saturday afternoon, June 18th.

For over thirty years, Mick Hannigan has picked the best Irish Shorts for his Festival programmes. He serves as a member of the board of Clermont Ferrand Short Film Conference and he is also former Artistic Director of the Cork Film Festival and currently works with the Indie Cork Film Festival. He is universally regarded as an authority on short films and he has put together an eclectic mix of the strongest and most influential short films that Ireland has produced.

Joining Mick on the day will be Felim McDermott, former Galway Film Fleadh programmer, who will interview Mick and there will also be an opportunity to hear some of the filmmakers selected to talk about their work. Mick’s selection of films will be preceded by a special screening of this year’s eight short Splanc! films to include Tadhg O’Sullivan’s Solas Céad Bliain, Oonagh Kearney’s Oíche Nollaig na mBan, Feargal Ward’s and Adrian Duncan’s Bungaló Bliss, Dónal Ó Céilleachair’s Áiliu Iath n-hÉrend (Invoking Ireland), Megs Morley’s and Tom Flanagan’s Cruth na Cumhachta, Pat Collins’s Idir Neamh agus Talamh: Saothar William McKeown, Sharon Whooley’s Imogen Stuart Dealbhóir and Art Ó’Briain’s The Souvenir Shop.

There will also be a screening of short films from THE recent Galway Film Centre training courses. These films were shot in Galway city and county and include two short documentaries and two short dramas.
