Irish presenters Dara O Briain and Angela Scanlon have been announced as the new presenters of ‘Robot Wars’ when the series is rebooted for six episodes on BBC Two later this year.

Dara and Angela will get up close with the robots, the teams and get feedback from the Robot Wars judges while commentator Jonathan Pearce will return with his take on the Robot Wars fights.

Dara O’Briain is one of Ireland’s most active comedians and television presenters working in the UK. After presenting RTÉ2 comedy show ‘The Panel’ from 2003 to 2006, O’Briain began presenting BBC’s hugely popular panel show ‘Mock The Week’ from 2005. Other shows he hosted include ‘The Apprentice: You’re Fired’ (BBC2), ‘Dara O Briain:School of Hard Sums’ (Dave), ‘Star Gazing Live with Prof Brian Cox’ (BBC 1) ‘Dara O Briain’s Science Club’ (BBC2).

Speaking about his new role, O’Briain said: “I am thrilled to be presenting Robot Wars. For too long, the schedules have cried out for a show in which dedicated amateurs, toiling day and night, handcraft sophisticated automatons built on the delicate interplay of hand-wired servo motors with custom-built circuit boards and fingertip motion control, just to see them get smashed to pieces by a dustbin carrying a massive hammer. It's war, and how I love it so.”

Very active in Ireland over the past few years with RTÉ2 shows such as ‘Oi Ginger’ and ‘Full Frontal’ after starting off with ‘Xpose’ and ‘Off The Rails’, Scanlon has also seen her star rise in the UK working on shows such as ‘The Voice UK’ and holiday programme ‘The Getaways’ (RTÉ/BBC).

Scanlon said: “I'm so excited to be joining such a legendary show that, after all this time, still manages to make people squeal with joy. I cannot wait to see the robots in all their metallic glory playfully destroying each other!”

All the ‘Robot Wars’ action will come from the new purpose-built fighting arena in Glasgow, which will allow viewers to get even closer to the action, with state-of-the-art cameras capable of capturing every detail.
