Irish TV announces 2015 Christmas schedule

There will be a major focus on the Irish in America with three special shows airing over the Christmas period on Irish TV SKY 191
Irish TV has announced its 2015 Christmas schedule with a mix of new home grown programming, Christmas specials and US content.

New programmes include ‘Susan & Malachi's Christmas Special,’ ‘Lisa McHugh’s Christmas Dinner,’ ‘Oh Me Oh My Songs for Joe,’ ‘Aisling’s Top Ten,’ ‘Play It by Ear,’ ‘Brian Friel: Return to Ballybeg,’ ‘Christmas in New York,’ ‘Christmas in Boston’ and ‘A Craving for Home’.

Highlights include the documentary ‘Matt Cunningham Around the House’, airing Christmas Day as family and friends share fond memories of the Galway musician as he celebrates fifty years on the road.

Another documentary ‘Daithí’ will bring viewers on a journey of the Arctic Circle, as Limerick native Daithí Ó Murchú sets out to become the first Irish person ever to complete the gruelling 350 Arctic Circle Race. There are also documentaries about Mullingar singer Joe Dolan and Irish writer Brian Friel.

There will be a major focus on the Irish in America with three special shows airing over the Christmas period on Irish TV SKY 191. Poignant documentary, ‘Christmas in New York,’ looks at life in the Big Apple and how the Irish Diaspora celebrate away from home.

Meanwhile, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh is very proud of his Irish Heritage and in the documentary, ‘Christmas in Boston,’ he looks at how the Irish community have dominated social and political life in Massachusetts State for the past century. And a Christmas craving for famous Irish brands like Tayto, Irish sausages or Old Time Irish Marmalade means the Irish Export Industry to the USA is booming at present in this special documentary, ‘A Craving for Home,’ looks at those at the heart of the industry in America.

Irish TV Chef, Paul Treyvaud, is also returning with his Christmas specials about cultural festive feasts.

Many Irish country music stars feature on Irish TV this Christmas including, Lisa McHugh, Susan McCann, Daniel O’Donnell, Nathan Carter, Philomena Begley and Foster & Allen. They will also have music from Phil Coulter and Louis Walsh's new band HomeTown.

Irish TV’s Head of PR & Marketing Liam Joyce said: “Irish TV’s Christmas Schedule is all about feel-good family entertainment. There are unique and special programmes that will engage with our audiences at home and abroad in this action packed Christmas schedule. We have some real jewels in the line-up this year, but every day across the season we are bringing big entertainment with a mix of new shows and old favourites."
