In a first for Irish VFX, Screen Scene has won a Royal Television Society Craft & Design Award for ‘Ripper Street’.
The Dublin-based post-house won in the category of Best Effects Digital for their work on the ‘Ripper Street’ Series Three episode ‘Whitechapel Terminus’.
The Awards, which are chaired by Cheryl Taylor, Controller of CBBC, recognise the huge variety of skills and processes involved in programme production.
Ed Bruce, Alan Collins & Nicholas Murphy were the named nominees on the night and accepted the award on behalf of Screen Scene VFX.
SSVFX were solely responsible for all the Visual Effects on ‘Ripper Street’ Series Three, with Visual Effects Supervisor Ed Bruce overseeing his team at their Dublin headquarters as well as providing the on-set supervision with VFX Coordinator Nicholas Murphy. The in-house team were managed and scheduled by VFX Producer Alan Collins and his VFX Coordinator Kenneth Coyne.
Also nominated on the night was colourist Aidan Farrell – nominated twice in the category of Effects – Picture Enhancement for his work on Channel 4 drama ‘Indian Summers’ and BBC One’s ‘Remember Me’ – but he lost out to Dan Coles for ‘The Eichmann Show’.
A current project of SSVFX is ‘The Frankenstein Chronicles’ (which premiered on ITV Encore on November 11th) with upcoming projects including Ken Follett’s best-selling novel ‘A Dangerous Fortune’ and the eagerly anticipated fourth and fifth series of ‘Ripper Street’ which is shooting in Dublin now.
