Crossing The Line Productions’ award-winning wildlife film ‘Ireland’s Wild River’ is to air on BBC 2 on Thursday, July 16 at 8pm.

Presented by Emmy award-winning wildlife presenter Colin Stafford-Johnson as he goes on a voyage of discovery along Ireland’s River Shannon, the film follows the river from dawn to dusk over the four seasons, capturing its ever changing moods and exploring the countless waterways, islands and lakes that make up the entire river system. In never before seen footage, Kingfishers, Daubenton Bats, Great Crested Grebe and flying Red Squirrels reveal themselves and their lives and habitats on the River Shannon.

'Ireland's Wild River' is directed and shot by John Murray, produced by Cepa Giblin and edited by Emer Reynolds (who recently won an IFTA for the documentary 'One Million Dubliners').

Originally made in association with RTÉ and broadcast as the two-part ‘The Secret Life of the Shannon’, the film has gone on to win the world’s two most prestigious awards for natural history filmmaking at the world’s top two wildlife film festivals. It won Best of Festival at both Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival in the US and Wildscreen in the UK beating over 500 other entries from the top international wildlife producers. It has also won many other awards at these and other festivals including Best Cinematography, Best Script and Best Editing.

When awarding the film Best of Festival at Wildscreen 2014 in Bristol, the international jury said: ‘A beautifully conceived film where the script, photography, music and editing create a magical hour, reconnecting us with nature in a way that very few films do today. This film could have won at Wildscreen 25 years ago. Will a film like this win in 25 years from now? We hope so.’

‘Ireland’s Wild River’ is a Crossing the Line Production in association with RTÉ and made with the support of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, the ESB, Waterways Ireland, the National Parks & Wildlife Service, and The Heritage Council. The film will air on BBC2 on Thursday, July 16 at 8pm.
