The BAFTA Television Award nominations have been announced with Irish actors James Nesbitt, Stephen Rea and Brendan O Carroll all getting nods for their work this year.
Also of Irish interest are the nominations for ‘Moone Boy’, Graham Norton and the dramas ‘Line of Duty’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ which are both shot in Belfast.
James Nesbitt was nominated in the category of Leading Actor for his critically acclaimed turn as the father of an abducted boy in the highly praised BBC Drama ‘The Missing’ while Stephen Rea was nominated for Supporting Actor for his role in the political spy thriller series ‘The Honourable Woman’.
Rural Irish comedy ‘Moone Boy’ - which is co-created by Nick Vincent Murphy and Chris O Dowd – continued its rich vein of award form (in the past 12 months the show has won an International Emmy and an IFTA) by getting a nomination for Best Situation Comedy.
Brendan O Carroll received a nomination also for Best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme for ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas Special’ while Graham Norton got a nomination for Best Entertainment Performance with his BBC talk show ‘The Graham Norton Show’ getting nominated in the category of Best Comedy and Comedy Entertainment Programme.
Also receiving a BAFTA Nomination is Dublin born director Aisling Walsh nominated in the single Drama category for 'A Poet in New York', a drama about Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. Nick Murphy’s 'Prey' is also up for an award, the 2014 TV thriller has been nominated in the Best Mini-Series category. Another Irish connection and nominated in the Specialist Factual category, Channel 4 documentary, 'Our Gay Wedding the Musical', is up for an award, produced by 'Strictly Come Dancing' Irish producer Sean Murphy.
There was also a nomination for the drama series ‘Line of Duty’ – which has just begun its’ third season shoot in Belfast – for Best Drama Series. ‘Game of Thrones’ – another series shot in Belfast – was also given a nomination for Radio Times Audience Award – which was voted for by the public.
The British Academy Television Awards will take place on Sunday, 10th May.
The BAFTA Television Craft Award nominations were also announced last week with ‘Penny Dreadful’ leading the nominations with five. Check out the other nominees here.
