The official trailer for the highly-anticipated thriller ‘’71’ has been released. ‘’71’ stars Jack O’ Connell (‘Skins’, ‘Starred Up’) as a young British soldier who is accidentally abandoned by his unit during a riot in Belfast in 1971. Trapped for the night and unable to distinguish friend from foe, the soldier must survive alone and find a means of escaping.
The film was shot in Yorkshire last year and co-stars a number of Irish actors including Richard Dormer (‘Good Vibrations’, ‘GOT’), David Wilmot (‘The Guard’), Martin McCann (‘Jump’, ‘My Boy Jack’) and ‘Love/Hate’’s Charlie Murphy, Killian Scott and Barry Keoghan.
This is Yann Demange’s first feature film. He is best-known as a TV director for shows such as ‘Dead Set’, ‘Criminal Justice’ and ‘Top Boy.’ The screenplay was by Gregory Burke, with Warp Films’ Robin Gutch (an IFTA winner who produced the Irish drama ‘Hunger’) and Angus Lamont of Crab Apple producing. Demange directed from a script by Gregory Burke.
Alongside Irish animated feature ‘Song of the Sea’ and drama ‘Miss Julie’, the film has been selected to screen as a part of the revered Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The film will be released in Irish cinemas on October 10th.
