Documentary 'Only in Mahagonny: The Legacy', based on the recent production of 'The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny' opera in Dublin, will be broadcast on Sky Arts 2 this Saturday 28 June at 7pm.
The behind the scenes documentary produced by COCO Television follows the transformation of Olympia Theatre and the unprecedented and much anticipated production of the operaby Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht which ran in Dublin for six nights only from 13-22 June 2014. The Rough Magic and Opera Theatre Company production was made with support of the Sky Arts Ignition Award. This documentary features scenes from the performance, as well as interviews with key creative players such as Lynne Parker the director, David Brophy the conductor and Consolata Boyle who was the costume designer for the opera.
The director of the documentary was Diarmuid Goggins and it was produced by Zlata Filipovic. Executive Producers were Linda Cullen and Anna Nolan, and the Executive Producer for SKY was Barbara Lee. Kate McCullough and Eleanor Bowman were on camera, Christian Byrne was on sound, and Stephen Vickers was editor. Picture Post Production was handled by EMC Post and Sound Post Production was by Avatar Audio Post Production
The documentary follows on from a series of four 60 and 30 second promos which aired across Sky channels from early June promoting viewer engagement in the opera and the digital campaign. See one of the promos below:
