What began as a project that collects photos and tells the story of Arthur Fields, a street photographer who stood on O’Connell Bridge for fifty years, has grown into something much bigger than originally imagined. The scheme was launched at the end of March with over 4000 images received in six weeks via the online platform and official website.
The team behind the project have now linked up with RTÉ to produce a one-hour long arts documentary that will screen later this year. A photo-book that will be published with Collins Press in the autumn is also currently in production, making the documentary a multi-platform ambition.
Produced by El Zorrero Films, the project’s director is Ciarán Deeney and it is produced by Dave Clarke with Deeney. The documentary will tell the story of the renowned street photographer and will delve into some of the images he captured over fifty years of a changing Dublin and its people.
Producer Dave Clarke says, “The goal from the beginning was to make ‘Man on Bridge’ as big and as wonderful as possible and we’re delighted to see the project grow and for RTÉ to come on board. With the focus on crowd-sourcing an alternative photographic archive, the project has really resonated with people but we’re only getting started.”
