RTÉ’s Storyland returns for a fifth season to again give filmmakers the opportunity to develop a series of webisodes. Storyland is the umbrella for new series of commissioned web drama and is hosted on the RTÉ Player. Storyland 2014 will commission five series of 4x6 minute episodes with a budget of €30k per series.
The online drama commission is specifically geared towards producers, writers, cast and HODs who are at the beginning of their careers. If offers a chance for them to demonstrate and to enhance their creative and entrepreneurial skills.
Storyland is very open-minded – submissions may be of any genre, can be for a stand-alone series, or be an idea that could eventually become a TV drama. Unlike straight TV drama submissions, submissions to Storyland are not limited by channels or slots, but ideas should be strong, unique and ambitious, as well as encourage the development of new talent.
Previous success stories from Storyland include 2009 winners ‘Hardybucks’, the comedy which went on to be developed into a full TV series for RTÉ, and recently released a feature film. The team behind Storyland series 'Happy Slapper', Paul Duane, Rob Cawley and Gary Duggan, went on to make 'Amber' for RTÉ One among other projects. ‘Cuckoo’ has also seen great success, having won web awards in LA and Las Vegas, and secured distribution in France and LA.
Storyland 2014 is financed by RTÉ and the Irish Film Board. The closing date for entries is 5pm 31st July 2014.
