UTV Ireland Launches Search for New Faces
21 May 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
UTV Ireland is on the lookout for new faces to introduce soaps, drama and entertainment on the channel. The search was launched yesterday by Northern Irish TV presenter Julian Simmons.

A household name throughout Ireland, Julian Simmons is famed for his unique presenting style and witty intros to ‘Coronation Street’ and ‘Emmerdale’, for example, calling Gail Platt ‘ET in a wig’ before an episode of ‘Corrie’ some years ago.

The former air steward began his TV career after attending an audition for a continuity presenter at UTV, where he then worked freelance presenting weather forecasts, sports updates and programme introductions before joining full time in 1988, and he has not looked back since.

Since those early days, Julian has gone on to front his own programmes for UTV, such as ‘Come Fly with Julian’ where he jetted off to showcase some of the most exotic locations around the world, as well the popular ‘Julian’s on the Road’, which saw Julian learn to drive for the first time.

Julian was in Dublin yesterday to issue a challenge to the public, hopping on his soap box and launching the search for new faces to front UTV Ireland, due on air on 1st January 2015. Julian was keen to point out that his new UTV Ireland counterpart will have big shoes to fill.

“If you think you have what it takes to do my job, like introducing the latest goings on in the ‘Rovers Return’ and keeping viewers up to date with all the shenanigans in ‘Emmerdale’, well show us what you’ve got then!”, stated Julian in Dublin to launch the search.

“I’ll be searching high and low around the country for a new star to front our soaps, drama and entertainment shows on the all new UTV Ireland from January…. Let me tell you, it’s not as easy as I make it look, but if you fancy giving it a go register on our website now at utv.ie and you could be the one!”

Interested participants can register their interest with UTV Ireland online at www.utv.ie
