TRTÉ seeks Quiz or Gameshow Series for Young People
14 May 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
‘Shakedown The Town’
Young Peoples Programmes are looking for proposals for an entertaining series which for a 7-13 year old audience. The series of 9 x half hour programmes is intended for broadcast in the 5pm weekday slot on RTÉ Two in the Young Peoples schedule. The maximum budget is €245,000.

Previous successful programmes in this genre include ‘Shakedown The Town’, a treasure-hunting gameshow played by families and filmed on location, ‘Quizone’ (a quiz series set in a children’s play zone where team members find answers online to trigger their teammates’ race around the challenge course) and science adventure gameshow ‘The Mountain’.

TRTÉ is looking for proposals for a series that will entertain and engage young audience and their families. Each programme should be self-contained and capable of standing alone, however there should be a format or defined identity that gives cohesion to the series. Diverse styles and approaches are welcome.

A series for this audience needs to incorporate the production values of adult/family shows, and portray the jeopardy, excitement and fun of growing up. Essential for all proposals is a clear understanding of the proposed target audience and their needs. Youngsters with strong, engaging characters should feature strongly in each programme and there should be a good regional spread amongst participants.

Given the profile of the audience, every proposal should also have a complementary cross-platform component or dimension. TRTÉ offers content across four platforms, with TRTÉ digital Radio available from 7pm to 9pm every day and online and mobile elements available 24/7.

The series can be block recorded in a studio or filmed on location. Proposals should include a format outline, draft running order, proposed talent, and casting methodology as well as criteria for selecting the participant teams and characters.

The experience and credentials of the production team is a critical factor for the success of this series. Proposals should indicate that suitable director(s), producer(s) and production personnel have been approached and agreed to commit to take part in this series. Proposals should also identify suitable presenting talent and outline why the presenter is suited to the production format and style.

The series must be produced by end of December 2014 and available for transmission from 3rd February 2015.

Producers can submit ideas into the RTÉ eCommissioning system here under the programme category Young Peoples "TRTÉ QUIZ or GAMESHOW SERIES."

The deadline for proposals is 5pm on Tuesday 20th May 2014.
