Irish Webseries ‘Cuckoo’ Wins 7 Awards at LA Web Festival
23 Apr 2014 : Aisling Newton
Del Solar Films announced that ‘Cuckoo’, a 28-minute Irish webseries, picked up seven awards in the Drama category at the LA Web Festival ceremony, which took place on March 30.

The Irish production received awards for Outstanding Series in a Drama for Creator Nikki Racklin and Producer Marie Caffrey; Outstanding Directing in a Drama for Danann Breathnach; Outstanding Writing in a Drama for Racklin and Breathnach; Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama for Pagan Mc Grath as 'Niamh Keegan'; Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama for Denise Mc Cormack as 'Tina Vickers'; Outstanding Editing in a Drama for Breathnach; and Outstanding Special /Visual Effects in a Drama for Breathnach.

‘Cuckoo’ follows the story of a rebellious, copper-haired teenager Niamh Keegan (McGrath) who feels like a spare part in her boring, staid family unit. When she sees a digitally aged picture of a missing child in the newspaper that looks just like her, her imagination runs riot and she begins to suspect that she and the snatched baby are one and the same. ‘Cuckoo’ was originally a 4 part, online drama series written by Racklin and directed by Breathnach, commissioned by RTE for Storyland 4. Now, the 4 parts have been combined into a half hour drama produced by Caffrey at Zanzibar Films. The webseries also features IFTA 2012 Best Supporting Actress winner Denise McCormack (Love/Hate) and Brian Fortune (Game of Thrones).

The team behind ‘Cuckoo’ recently secured a distribution deal with Channel France 4 and JRS.TV (just the story) based in LA. ‘Cuckoo’ will be dubbed for French audiences in order to be broadcast on Channel France 4 from May. JTS.TV, a premium digital television network in LA, began airing the 28-minute drama on February 28.

The show is currently available to view on transatlantic Aer Lingus flights, the RTÉ website and has already gained an audience online where it can be seen on Vimeo below:
