Applications Open for IFB’s Animated Short Film Scheme
23 Apr 2014 : Aisling Newton
Applications are now open for the Irish Film Board’s Frameworks animated short film scheme, which is co-funded by RTÉ. The next application deadline is midnight on Friday, May 2, 2014.

Frameworks is a scheme for the making of animated short films which is continually successful in stimulating ground-breaking new work from Irish animators. Projects selected for funding will combine creative exploration with an ability to appeal to a general audience. Previous films funded under the Frameworks scheme include ‘The Missing Scarf’, ‘Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’, ‘Irish Folk Furniture’ and ‘Give Up Yer Aul Sins’.

Entries for the 19th edition of Frameworks should be submitted through the IFB’s new online application system. Hard copies and emails are no longer being accepted. For details on the parameters of the scheme, who can apply, the procedure and general rules, please click here.

In other animation news, the IFI and Animation Skillnet are presenting a day of discussion, masterclasses and screenings on Saturday, April 26. The day will provide both adults and children the chance to explore animation, visual culture and storytelling. Fred Burdy writer, director and CG artist from France who is now based in Windmill Lane will start the day with the first masterclass on the making of his IFB Frameworks-funded award- winning animated short ‘Tríd An Stoirm’. Terry Kenny, video game animator, will lead the second masterclass on Animation for Games with Adult content, sharing experience he’s picked up from working on games such as ‘Manhunt’ and ‘Grand Theft Auto San Andreas’.

There will also be a panel discussion, chaired by Dan Spencer, CEO and Producer with Giant Animation, on the styles and themes of adult animation and compare with those in popular kids’ animations for film or TV. Jason Tammemagi, creator of TV shows like ‘Fluffy Gardens’ and ‘Planet Cosmo’; and Leanne Preston, Company Director and Founder of Bright Box Creative will also be in attendance. The panel discussion will be followed by a screening of a programme of short animations that will include a range of work, along with the Annecy-nominated and César winning short ‘Kiki of Montparnasse’.
