Observe Hosts the 6 Nations in Rome
03 Mar 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
Observe Outside Broadcasting has been appointed host broadcaster for Italy's home fixtures in Rome during this seasons RBS 6 Nations Championship. The host broadcaster contract means that the company covered both the Italy VS Scotland match on Saturday 22 February and the Italy VS England match on Saturday 15 March in Rome.

As well as supplying its normal technical facilities and crew, Observe has teamed up with Sunset Vine to supply all production personnel including directors, producers and the location management involved in supplying match coverage from the Stadio Olimpico in Rome to the world.

“If you saw pictures of Italy VS Scotland anywhere in the world, including the BBC coverage, they were our pictures,” said Alan Burns, Managing Director of Observe. “It went brilliantly and everyone was really happy with the end result.”

Observe were also appointed by France TV to supply OB facilities for Wales VS France from Cardiff, which took place on 21 February, and will cover the France VS Scotland match from Edinburgh this Saturday.

“This year we are supplying facilities to 7 of 15 games in the championship working in Ireland, Italy, Wales and Scotland,” continues Alan Burns. “Naturally we have always been involved in Ireland's home games from the Aviva Stadium in Dublin working alongside RTÉ, but being awarded host broadcaster status for the Italian games in Rome and supplying services to France Television while they are in the UK is quite an achievement and a testament to our status in the international marketplace.”

This Saturday, the 8th of March, Observe will be both in Dublin for Ireland VS Italy and in Edinburgh for Scotland VS France. The following Saturday will see them return to Rome for the high profile fixture between Italy and England.

The sister company of Observe, Screen Scene, has also been involved in supplying graphic packages and branding to the 6 Nations Championship this year. “The 6 Nations were very keen to have a unified look anywhere the competition was seen,” explained Jim Duggan, MD Screen Scene. “Our designers came up with a great look and our relationship with Observe ensured that the package met the very specific technical requirements of live sports broadcasting.”

Apart from sports, Observe was also awarded host broadcaster status during Ireland's recent EU Presidency where they worked closely with government departments, agencies, national and international broadcasters.

“The EU Presidency was a very interesting and rewarding experience for us,” said Alan Burns, “we put together the entire production and facilities package and I am delighted to say played our small part in ensuring that Ireland's very successful EU Presidency was seen in the very best light on national and international screens.”
