'The Walking Dead' Season 4 premiere - which broke ratings records in the US on Sunday night with 16.1 million viewers - can attribute at least some of its success to a stunning performance by Tipperary actress Kerry Condon.
Ms Condon, who was nominated for an IFTA for Best Supporting Actress for ‘The Runway’ in 2011, appears in the episode as Clara, a new character driven to the brink of insanity while trying to survive the zombie apocalypse.
The episode can be seen by Irish and UK viewers tonight, Fri 18th Oct, on Fox at 10pm, and will air next year on RTÉ Two which recently concluded season three.
Created by Frank Darabont based on the popular graphic novel series, ‘The Walking Dead’ follows police sheriff Rick Grimes and a struggling band of survivors as they face the constant threat of flesh-eating ‘Walkers’.
Speaking about her role in ‘The Walking Dead’, Ms Condon said: ‘I was completely drawn to the part, the isolation and despair. It was great to be allowed play her in my own accent too. It took me days to wash all the make-up off. The hotel towels were black with dirt even after I showered. I felt so bad, I made sure to leave a really good tip for the chambermaid.’
Ms Condon is perhaps best known for playing Octavia in HBO’s ‘Rome’ and counts among her screen credits ‘The Last Station’, ‘This Must Be The Place’, ‘Angela’s Ashes’, ‘Intermission’ and ‘Ballykissangel’.
