Irish Film Industry Set To Descend On Cannes
15 May 2012 : By Steve Cummins
More than 80 Irish film companies have registered their attendance with the Irish Film Board’s Irish Pavilion stand for the Cannes International Film Festival, which gets underway in France tomorrow (May 16).

Among the Irish delegates attending include representatives from more than 50 Irish production companies and eight film festivals, as well as representatives of the 17 Irish feature films and documentaries selling at the event.

All the delegates will be contactable through the IFB’s Irish Pavilion, which will be located in the festival’s Village Internationale and is open from 1pm this Wednesday. It will then open daily until May 24 from 9.30am to 6.30pm, except on May 19 when it will close at 4.30pm.

Among the events organised by the IFB at the Irish Pavilion include a number of information and networking events, including panel discussions, a production lunch and a networking reception.

Irish producers, directors, distributors and others involved in the Irish film industry who will be travelling to Cannes for the market event include Samson Films’ David Collins; Blinder Films producer Katie Holly and director Kieron J. Walsh; producer Carla Mooney with Cardel Entertainment; Macdara Kelleher, Morgan Bushe, Ian Jackson and Aoife McGonigal of Fastnet Films and producer Fiona Graham of Sonny and Skye.

Other representative bodies that will be at the market include Irish legal firms Gordon Judge and Co; Matheson Ormsby Prentice; Moviesoft, and Philip Lee Solicitors, as well as other film and TV companies Network Ireland Television, Screen Producers Ireland, TV3 and Screen Training Ireland.

As previously reported on IFTN, Irish producer Morgan Bushe of Fastnet Films has been selected to take part in the European Film Promotion’s Cannes-based programme Producers On The Move.

Bushe, whose production credits include ‘The Other Side of Sleep’, is one of 25 producers from across Europe who have been handpicked by the EFP to take part in the networking event at Cannes.

The 25 have been chosen as having previously successfully realised joint European film projects.
