03 Mar 2011 :
Mad Men
The Dingle Film Festival (DFF) will welcome international guests this year such as Emmy winning ‘Mad Men’ writer Lisa Albert; Emmy winning writer of ‘The Tracey Ullman Show’ Marc Flanagan and recipient of this year’s Gregory Peck award, Jean-Jacques Beineix. The festival will launch on March 17th with a screening of Geoff Wonfor’s ‘We’ll Always Have Dingle’.

The DFF will see Irish and International screenwriters take part in the event’s Creative Screenwriting Panel. Those scheduled to attend include Emmy Award and Writers' Guild Award winner Lisa Albert (producer and writer on Mad Men); Richard Scobie (66 Degrees North), winner of this year's The Producers Guild of America Awards; IFTA winning Irish scriptwriter Mark O'Halloran (Adam & Paul, Garage); Emmy Award winner Marc Flanagan (The Tracy Ullman Show) and award winning producer Edwina Forkin (Headrush, Sugar). This event is being run in association with FÁS Screening Training Ireland.

The Dingle Festival will this year launch with a world premiere of the festival's own documentary ‘We'll Always Have Dingle’. Geoff Wonfor's DFF documentary looks to recreate classic movie moments from films such as ‘Casablanca’, ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Cinema Paradiso’, using Irish dialogue for an authentic Dingle feel, to acknowledge the area's contribution to the industry. Furthermore, this year’s Gregory Peck Award: For Excellence in the Art of Film will be presented to two time BAFTA nominee, Jean-Jacques Beineix in The Phoenix Cinema on Friday 18th March. The Award Ceremony will be followed with a special screening of his film, ‘Betty Blue’.

Special guests attending the festival will include filmmakers Lenny Abrahamson (Adam & Paul) and Sophie Fiennes (Over your City Grass Will Grow), who will take part in a MEDIA Desk supported discussion on ‘Creativity' & ‘being here'. In further news, for the first time the Dingle Film Festival is holding a shorts competition in a bid to promote writing for film in the Irish language, entitled Físín. Proposals will pitch live at the festival to Eamon de Buitléar (An Saol Beo), writer Louise Ní Fhiannachta (Seacht), writer Marina Ní Dhubháin (An Gaeilgeoir Nocht) and director Micheál Ó Fearraigh (Ealain Na Gaeltaht).

Another event organised will see Element Films’ Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe interviewed by filmmaker Michael Ryan (Fifty Dead Men Walking) as to the business strategies that have worked for their company. The talk will be followed by their award winning film, ‘Essential Killing’.

Other projects screening include the world premiere of ‘A Turtle’s Tail: Sammy’s Adventures’; Oscar nominated documentaries; ‘Enemies of the People’, ‘Client 9: The Rise & Fall of Eliot Spitzer’ and ‘Gasland’; Rob Epstein's Allen Ginsberg pic ‘Howl’ and Sé Merry Doyle’s ‘Dreaming of the Quiet Man’. The festival will close with ‘Treacle Jr’ at which its star Aidan Gillen and its director, Jamie Thraves, will be in attendance.
