City Channel Launches 'Gay Nation'
05 Jul 2010 :
Joe Kearney
’Gay Nation’, a new television programme for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community launches today, Monday July 5th at 10pm on City Channel and Channel South (UPC 107) and is presented by Joe Kearney.

The programme will take a look at serious issues affecting Ireland’s gay community, including legislative happenings, male and female health, personal security and the legal status of GLBT couples. The programme will also feature fashion, books, gossip and reviews of the best places to eat, drink, dance and meet up, whether gay or straight.

“It’s not just for gay people, many of the issues the programme will look at will interest the hetero community”, says ‘Gay Nation’s presenter Joe Kearney. “So much of what is happening in this country is of interest to all people, regardless of their sexual persuasion and we intend to reflect that – but first and foremost, we will be gay in outlook.”

City Channel was the first company to produce specifically targeted ethnic programming with ‘Ota Polska’ aimed at the large Polish audience and the channel’s Head of Programming, Vanessa Kaminski (I Killed John Lennon) tells us she intends to continue to introduce ground-breaking shows to Irish audiences: “City Channel is all about diversity. We want to produce entertaining television on subjects other broadcasters don’t deal with,” she says. “Gay Nation’ is another groundbreaking show on our network and we are looking forward to covering subjects of interest to the gay audience as well as our more mainstream viewers.”

Monday’s programme, directed and produced by Vanessa and Olive Geoghegan (presenter, On Your Doorstep) will feature Michael Farrell, Lawyer to Dr Lydia Foy; Max Krzyzanowski from LGBT Noise; as well as author and former Miss Ireland Amanda Brunker who will discuss her new book “Champagne Kisses”. The show will broadcast from 10pm on both City Channel and Channel South.
