Thaddeus O’Sullivan’s ‘Amber’ Acquired By Eight International Territories

Thaddeus O’Sullivan’s TV drama ‘Amber’ will be broadcast in eight different territories around the world, after UK-based distribution house Content Media secured a raft of international sales.

Currently in post-production at Meatball Facilities in Dublin, the four-part drama was originally produced for RTÉ. It will now air in Denmark, Sweden, Israel, Latin America, Brazil, Canada and Australia, on a number of different television stations. Netflix has also acquired the series for its video-on-demand- service in the US.

The series, which O’Sullivan directed over three months in Dublin last year, follows the investigation into the sudden disappearance of 14-year-old Amber Bailey.

Each episode of ‘Amber’ focuses on the perspective of one individual connected to the case, including Amber’s family, friends, and complete strangers who become drawn into the quest.

Lauryn Canny stars as Amber, with Eva Birthistle (Waking the Dead), David Murray (Raw), and Janice Byrne (Primeval) all featuring in lead roles.

The script was co-written by Gary Duggan and Rob Cawley (The Mary G Show). Cawley produced alongside ‘Secret Diary of a Call Girl’ writer Paul Duane for Dublin-based Screenworks.

Duane and Cawley said: “We were very confident in the international potential of ‘Amber’ as part of Content Television’s drama portfolio and are delighted with these initial acquisitions. The structure of the story is highly effective in drawing audiences in over the four episodes and unexpected twists will keep viewers guessing what happened to ‘Amber’ until the very end – creating a very involving drama that is perfect for international primetime schedules.”

Saralo MacGregor, executive vice president of Worldwide Distribution at Content Television and Digital added: “We have received tremendous interest from our international clients for ‘Amber’ and are very pleased to announce this first round of deals from across the world. This is a powerful drama that plays on fears and emotions we can all relate to; the team at Screenworks have done an outstanding job in portraying this complex and compelling story.”

RTÉ is yet to announce a TX date for Irish audiences.
